PHYSICAL FITNESS
SDG Academy is a school that teaches self-defense to all ages using the principles and techniques of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. They desire to equip people to confidently defend themselves by providing quality instruction in a safe and playful environment. Currently, they are offering small semi-private classes in our home (with plans to expand in the future). As a fellow homeschool family, they are excited and passionate about teaching anti-bullying tactics to children (both verbal and non-verbal) as well as basic self-defense to adults. Julie Christian is a veteran homeschool mom with over 20 years of experience. Her professional background is in special education, and her areas of expertise are Autism Spectrum Disorders and Dyslexia. Julie provides Autism evaluations, Dyslexia evaluations, independent academic testing, consultation and Social Thinking Groups in partnership with Autism Behavioral Consulting and Theratime. Reading and Writing: A Charlotte Mason Approach
The Westbrook Arts Center is a free community resource located in a 120+ year old rescued church in Westbrook, Minnesota. It is stocked with musical instruments, craft supplies, books, games, costumes, sound equipment, art supplies and lots of cozy places to play and create.
We host musical song circles, kids' game nights, improv nights, homeschool art and music events, and more. The arts center is also used regularly by individuals and families who want to create but lack the materials, money or know-how to do so.
The arts center is run by our homeschooling family, entirely from donations and our own time and resources. We are a 501C-3 tax deductible, non-profit organization founded because we believe making art and music should be available for everyone.
The Sioux Falls Homeschool choir has 3 age divisions:
Mini Choir: ages 4-6
Junior Choir: ages 7-10
Homeschool Choir: ages 11-18
They practice on Friday mornings at Poppler's Music in Sioux Falls.

Spinner Wheel is a free online tool that allows for a flexible and engaging approach to learning. It has many use-cases for any subject.
All entries on wheels are fully editable and one of the main things that makes it so useful is the ability to create multiple wheels for use at one time.
ANNUAL EVENTS
The Four Day Class is a dynamic, hands-on leadership experience where students learn about state government from a Christian worldview. Students gather to run for office, participate in a mock legislature, and learn about how they can be effective leaders in their community back home. For Students ages 13-19. The Political Communication Workshop trains students to analyze, execute, and interpret public presentations through a variety of activities and discussions. Students are challenged to develop critical thinking skills as they learn what communication looks like in the political realm. For Students ages 13-19. The One Day Class is an action-packed day full of exciting experiences that introduce Students to their state government using a dynamic, hands-on approach. Students are led by an energetic Staff Team as they explore their local government, pray for their leaders, discuss their mock legislation, and so much more! For Students ages 8 – 12.
Christian Homeschool Conference of South Dakota
The Christian Homeschool Conference of South Dakota (CHCSD) is run by a volunteer committee under TEACHSD, and it exists in order to encourage, inspire and invigorate the Christian homeschooling community. The annual homeschool conference is open to both new and veteran homeschoolers, and to those who are interested in learning more about this educational option. CHCSD generally occurs the beginning of May. It features several speakers and workshops on a variety of homeschool topics, as well as a vendor hall full of resources. FAIRSD sponsors this great event as a way for families to come together, showcase our amazing community from around the state, advocate for alternative instruction, and experience how our S.D. system of government works in real time!
MUSEUMS (SCIENCE & ARTS)
The Outdoor Campus is a joint project of the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks and the City of Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation Department. It offers free outdoor skills education for all ages and families such as hunting and fishing, environmental sciences, outdoor skills. The campus has 2 miles of walking trails, birdwatching, and a natural playground. They also offer educational interactive displays indoors.
The Great Plains Zoo strives to fulfill four major objectives: Education, Conservation, Recreation, and Discovery. You can explore many exhibits both indoors and outdoors. They also have many programs available.
The Museum of Visual Materials offers arts and crafts classes for children and adults as well as an indoor space to play and create.
The Siouxland Heritage Museums Old Courthouse Museum, Pettigrew Home & Museum and Irene Hall Museum Resource Center offer programs, exhibits and traveling exhibits.
The Washington Pavilion offers many resources: classes and camps, steam opportunities, Dakota Academy of Performing Arts, Kirby Science Discovery Center, movies, Visual Arts Center, Ravens Children Studio, performances.
The Butterfly House & Aquarium has interactive exhibits and exotic animals to explore. They are a non-profit, admission fees and donations aid them on their mission of inspiring the next generation of environmental stewards.
There are five locations in Sioux Falls and in some surrounding communities. Every branch has normal library services - however some have other services available such as educational programs, online resources, meeting and study rooms, public computers and printers, document stations, exam proctoring. They also have a variety of board games, movies, and audio materials.
